This is the digital world. From concept to broadcast, television has completely embraced technology—cutting edge, current and ever-changing.
Technology has placed more power at the hands of the content creator. A few years ago, this was unthinkable. Then, you were either an artist, journalist, , film-maker or a technologist. Now, a television reporter can shoot, edit and broadcast his story almost entirely by himself, albiet with lots of help from technologists.
But what’s most striking about this technology boom is the explosive coming together of three of today’s most advanced tools of communication—broadcasting, the internet and the mobile phone. Now, there isn’t a single screen that you can’t reach—anywhere—if you have the vision and attitude.
This rapidly advancing current of convergence brings unheard of opportunity and a tremendous amount of responsibility on content creators and broadcasters. The same content can now be packaged for a much wider audience with concomitant revenue-streams. The ever-expanding markets are now assuming truly global proportions. However, content creators now have to think much harder and plan much ahead, to adapt their content to every possible platform.
The more technology forays into the fortresses of content creation, however, the more it is becoming apparent that creating good content is still the realm of art. But the remarkable discovery is that art, and its owner, are no longer averse to technology, and its many manifestations. Today’s journalist, writer or film-maker, therefore, is not only better-endowed, he is also better connected and better equipped.
